Connect with real nonprofits

Why do I need TechSoup's Validation Services?

Whether it's for product donations or discounts, volunteering or pro bono work, matching gift programs, or other engagements with NGOs around the world, you want to be confident that you are connecting with legally recognized nonprofits.

We help you reduce risks that keep your legal, financial, or communication teams up at night:

  • Brand risks — from using improper or undocumented standards
  • Reputational risks — from giving to ineligible NGOs
  • Legal risks — by unknowingly operating outside the law in a foreign country

We leverage real-time knowledge and dynamic processes to inform our customers' particular needs and make adjustments nimbly when needed.

Isn't there a way to just look up nonprofits in my own country? Any country?

In some countries, it is possible to look up a limited amount of nonprofit financial and tax information. Outside of countries like the US or the UK, this becomes more complicated, because tax and legal information is not always readily available. The lack of international standards and an ever-changing regulatory environment make it impossible in many countries to verify that a nonprofit is real.

How do you define nonprofits outside of the United States or United Kingdom?

We have created global standards for nonprofits based on legal and regulatory requirements in each country, and we validate each organization to ensure it meets these criteria. Working with members of our TechSoup Global Network to ensure we have up-to-date local information, our legal team has defined what it means to be a legitimate nonprofit according to each country's legal system. Our validation process relies on additional research, and we verify the agent representing the organization as part of our process.

Are TechSoup's services available in all countries?

TechSoup's services are available in 236 countries and territories around the world. TechSoup does not validate nonprofit organizations in Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, or Cuba at this time. TechSoup Validation Services works through the TechSoup Global Network, a global network of 66 civil society organizations that partner to deliver products and services to local nonprofits. This network leverages local knowledge to ensure that NGOs meet TechSoup's validation criteria.

How much does it cost?

Our pricing varies by the level of difficulty necessary to validate an organization and the type of validation solution used. Our pricing can be shared following an initial discovery call to determine your unique needs.

We are working with some incredibly talented people who are providing us with on the ground insights on what’s working in specific countries and regions, and that’s helping us make informed decisions around the products that we’re building and the tools that we’re shaping.”

— Rosalyn Mahashin, Facebook

"The TechSoup network is incredible because there’s so much dispersed knowledge about nonprofits in every country all over the world, and for us to be able to become experts in that way is impossible. The local expertise of the network is incredible.”
